Questions

Everything a house wishes to know

Gratias is the gratitude infrastructure of the world's finest hotels, and its answer to digital tipping: the guest gives thanks in three seconds, the member of staff receives the whole of it, and the money never passes through the hotel's accounts, nor through ours. What follows are the questions a house asks before it opens its doors to us, answered plainly.

I

The gesture

What the guest sees, and how little is asked of them.

How does a guest give thanks with Gratias?

The guest holds their telephone to a card in the hotel's colours, or scans the code it carries. The hotel's own page opens at once, under the hotel's name and in the guest's language. They choose an amount, they see the service fee before paying, and they confirm.

The gesture takes three seconds and asks nothing of the guest beyond the telephone already in their hand.

Does the guest need an application or an account?

Neither. There is nothing to download and nothing to register. The page opens in the browser the guest already uses, and closes once the thank-you has been sent. A house that asks its guests to install software has already lost the gesture.

Which languages does the guest page speak?

Seven: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Chinese and Arabic. The guest's own currency is shown beside the amount for reference, although the payment itself is made in the currency of the house. This site, addressed to hotels rather than to their guests, exists in four languages only.

How do the teams a guest never meets receive their share?

The linen room, the floors, the kitchen: the trades that shape a stay without ever appearing in it are served by a fair rotation, which directs a share of collective thanks towards named people. Nothing is poured into a common pool and divided afterwards by a rule no one can inspect.

Can a guest give thanks once the stay is over?

Yes. A secure, capped link may travel in a member of staff's email signature, so that a service rendered after departure, a reservation secured from afar or a forgotten object returned, can still be acknowledged. Gratitude does not always keep to the hours of the stay.

II

The path of the money

Where the sums go, when they arrive, and what is taken from them along the way.

Does the money pass through the hotel's accounts, or through Gratias?

Through neither, at any moment. Each payment travels from the guest's card to the personal wallet of the member of staff, held with an authorised electronic money institution.

This is not a technical arrangement but the founding principle of the house: the tip belongs to the person who rendered the service, and to no one else. By design, the employer never receives the funds.

When does a member of staff actually receive the money?

The transfer from the wallet to their own bank account goes out each week, free of charge. They receive one hundred per cent of every thank-you: no commission is levied at any point along the way, in any country.

What does the guest pay in addition?

A service fee of 0.50 plus five per cent of the amount, capped at 5.00, displayed in full before payment. It is always added to the thank-you and never taken from it. A hotel may elect to bear the fee itself, so that the guest pays only what they intended to give.

The figure the guest chooses is the figure that arrives. The fee sits beside it, never inside it.

How is tax handled?

Every country treats these sums in its own way. The engine applies the regime of the country in which the house stands wherever that regime is modelled, and a standard treatment everywhere else; it prepares the documents in that country's language where that language is served, and in English elsewhere.

Each member of staff has a tax companion within their own space, which explains, month after month, what their situation asks of them. The matter is stated plainly rather than left to each house to interpret alone.

May a member of staff set part of their thank-yous aside?

Yes, should they wish. A share of what they receive can be set aside at their own pace, towards whatever they are planning. It is theirs to begin and theirs to end, and no one else is told of it.

III

The hotel's signature

Every surface a guest touches belongs to the house, and says so.

Does the guest page carry the Gratias name?

It does not. The page a guest discovers carries the hotel's name, its colours, its monogram and its voice. The brand studio reads the house's own website and proposes a complete identity, applied in a single gesture across every surface: the guest page, the cards, the codes and the team portal.

Gratias is the infrastructure; the house is what is seen.

How does a hotel obtain its cards?

Gratias supplies a fleet of numbered cards in the hotel's colours, assigned and reassigned to members of staff in two gestures from the console. The code they carry bears the house's mark and palette. The design studio also provides printable templates at exact dimensions, for cards, A4 and A5 display sheets and badges, faithful to the brand guidelines.

What is discretion mode?

A neutral descriptor on the guest's bank statement, and amounts veiled on screen. It is intended for houses in which reserve is part of the service itself. Nothing is surrendered in exchange: every feature of the thank-you, and the direct transfer that follows it, remains exactly as it is.

Can a guest thank several people at the end of a stay?

Yes. On departure, a guest may acknowledge each of the people who shaped their stay in a single sitting. Each acknowledgement is a distinct, direct payment to a named person. There is never a common pool, and no sum is ever redistributed after the fact.

IV

Assurance

What can be demonstrated, to a director, to a staff representative, to an auditor.

Can management see what each member of staff receives?

No. Management sees overall figures for the house, the department and the period, never the amounts received by a named person. This absence of surveillance is built into the architecture rather than promised in a staff handbook, and a technical attestation certifies it, so that the claim may be verified instead of merely believed.

What can a house place before its staff representatives?

The two attestations, no funds in transit and no surveillance, together with the regulatory exports, are produced on demand from the house's own data. They rest upon the tamper-proof audit log, which timestamps every sensitive action. A discussion of this kind is better begun with evidence than with intentions.

How does a group oversee several hotels at once?

A group console consolidates every house in the collection, whatever their currencies. Anonymous benchmarks place each house among its peers without ever exposing an individual.

Where is the data held?

In Europe, with published retention periods and surfaces built to European accessibility requirements. Every sensitive action is written to a tamper-proof audit log, and a sentinel watches the flows and signals anything unusual. Gratias itself is domiciled in Geneva.

What happens when a member of staff leaves the house?

What they have received is theirs, and so is what they have been told. Their gratitude passport, the record of the recognition they have gathered, follows them from house to house, protected by a secret phrase known to them alone: no house ever sees the record of another.

Their personal guest book remains theirs as well, and they alone choose which words to reveal, which to keep, and which to offer to a house's roll of honour.

V

The model

Three figures, one sentence each, and the same everywhere in the world.

What does a hotel pay?

Four per open staff account, each month, in the hotel's own currency, whichever currency the house keeps its books in. NFC cards are supplied at five apiece, in that same currency. There are no tiers, no minimum and no small print, and the model is identical everywhere in the world.

  • 4per open staff account, each month, in the currency of the house
  • 5per NFC card, in that same currency
  • 0what a member of staff pays, always

Does a member of staff ever pay anything?

Never: not today, not tomorrow, not in any country. They receive one hundred per cent of every thank-you, the weekly transfer to their bank account is free, and no feature intended for them is placed behind a paid tier.

One rule is not open to negotiation: the gratitude a member of staff receives is never turned into a commercial option.

How long does a house take to be ready?

There is nothing to integrate and nothing to install. The brand studio proposes the house's identity from its own website, the cards arrive numbered and are assigned in two gestures, and members of staff enter through a portal link given to them at induction, with no account to create and no software to learn. The pace is therefore the house's own.

How does a hotel request a demonstration?

By asking for one: a private demonstration of some thirty minutes, prepared in the colours of the house. Gratias is opening with a few founding hotels. The request is made from this site, and members of staff already enrolled reach their own space through the portal link received at induction.

The invitation

A question we have not answered?

Ask it of us directly, or see the whole of it in thirty minutes, in the colours of your house.
